What Dynasty Haiti stores on your device, and why. Some of it is not strictly a cookie — the music you keep for offline listening is far larger than a cookie could be — but it is stored on your device just the same, so it is described here.
1 Needed for the site to work
A session cookie so you stay signed in. A cookie holding what is in your basket. A security token on forms, which is what stops somebody else submitting them on your behalf. These cannot be switched off without the site ceasing to work, and they carry nothing about you beyond the fact of your session.
2 Remembering what you chose
Your language. Which help page you were reading. Where the player had got to, so it does not restart when you open a new page. These are kept on your device and are not sent to anybody.
3 Music kept on your device
If you choose to keep a track for listening without a signal, the audio is stored on your device in the browser's own storage, along with the artwork and the title. It stays until you remove it or clear your browser data, and it is never sent anywhere. It can be several megabytes per track, which is the point — it is there so the music plays with no connection.
The site also stores a copy of its own pages so it opens when you have no signal. That is what makes it work as an app.
4 Understanding how the site is used
We use analytics to see which pages are opened and how people find us. It tells us that a page was visited, not who visited it. If your browser sends a do-not-track signal we do not override it.
5 Set by other people
Paying takes you to your payment provider, and they set their own cookies while you are with them. Signing in with Google involves Google's cookies. We do not control those and they are covered by those companies' own policies.
6 Turning them off
Every browser lets you refuse or delete cookies, usually under Settings, Privacy. Doing so will sign you out and may empty your basket. Clearing site data also removes any music you kept for offline listening — you can download it again from your library, but it will cost you the data a second time.
